Dog Days: The Hits Just Keep On Coming

NOTE: Scroll down for updates

Well, the Sun is blazing all across the globe. It's summer- the Dog Days- and the symbols are flying like grackles in the grove. It seems like I'm doing a lot of these posts recently, but you gotta fish when they're bitin'.

That blue and gold Sol there is from a story in the UK press- the British company is paying off illegal immigrants at Calais to go back home. I guess wages have been driven down enough.

For the time being, at least.

Dog Days: The Age of Entropy

We all know the origin of the term "Dog Days," but I often remember seeing it used in the papers to describe the midsummer doldrums, when everyone was on vacation and nothing was really getting done.

A Very Sirius Election: Lipstick on a Dog (Star)

We've seen how the iconography of the Obama and McCain campaigns incorporates different aspects of the Sirius glyph. We have the "star-making" joke equating herself with a dog (Pit Bull Terrier, in this case) that Sarah Palin recited at the Republican Convention, which reminds us that Sirius is the Dog Star and also that Sirius was equated with Isis:

Yahooccultism: Dog Days Are Never Over

Well, it's after-Labor Day (the autumnal equinox is a good two weeks away).

Time to put away your white slacks and dresses and get out your schoolbooks. Happily, Yahoo is still lobbing softballs at symbol watchers, just like they did throughout the Dog Days.

Space is an Altar: A Mother and Child Reunion

If you scroll down and look at the right hand column, you'll come across Knowles' Law. It reads as follows: "Whenever a controversy over symbolism erupts in the media, it's usually disguising another hidden symbolic message altogether."

Dog Days: The Ground Zero Mosque

I made mention the other day of this shot from HuffPost pertaining to the "Ground Zero Mosque" debate surrounding Park51 or the Cordoba House or whatever it's being called this week.

Looking for Signs at the End of the Age

"Tell the king; the fair wrought house has fallen.
No shelter has Apollo, nor sacred laurel leaves;

The fountains are now silent; the voice is stilled.

It is finished."
- The Delphic Oracle, 393 AD

When you reach the end of an age, the myths and the symbols that once defined that age begin to turn against it. Often in horrifying and merciless ways.

NASA's Dog Day Space-Cartoon

NAZCA NASA's been having quite a summer.

You've probably been following the controversy over the massive lights on the dwarf planet Ceres (named after the mother goddess of Rome who was identified with Isis and Demeter) and the subsequent shenanigans we've come to expect from everyone's favorite labyrinthine comedy troupe.

The Siren: Sirius Rising

The first thing I'd like to do here is reframe this narrative. The prism we should see this through is that of the story of the theme song to what was at one time the most watched television show in the world, namely House MD.

Now Listen, You

Well, there's an omen for you: a giant pink bolt of lightning striking the plinth that bears the world's most famous drag queen, Lady Mithras Nymphus. Not the big giant bunch of copper there but the stone base.

I don't know why, but it all seems to make sense.

A Very Sirius Election: The Phoenix Goes Down

Another Mars probe, another mysterious system failure. Nazca, er, I mean NASA, has reported that the Phoenix has gone dead. Soon after another Phoenix went down in flames.

As above, so below, eh?

A Lot More Sirius Than You Think

Today is the traditional date of the helical rising of the "Dog Star" Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, as well the traditional opening of the Dog Days. Which means it's the perfect time to get together and talk about Sirius and the long history of worship of it.

Warning: for such a bright and beautiful star, the adoration for it can get a lot more serious than you think.

Yahooccultism: Crowned with the Sun

You know, I never noticed how much the CMS installation at CERN resembled old Sol. No surprise they're searching for the "God Particle" there. Hopefully the overweening narcissism of the current generation of scientists won't be all of our undoing.

I must admit that very time I see a CERN headline I can't help but flash back to The Quiet Earth.

It's a Pearly Dewdrop The Rock

Everyone loves The Rock. You love him, I love him, America loves him, the world loves him. Hell, even my dog loves The Rock. Yours probably does too.

Stairway to Sirius, Revisited: Up from the Depths

There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed.
There is nothing kept secret that will not come to light. - Luke 8:17

This whole semiotic/synchronistic adventure started in Norway, with a strange aerial display and a host of symbolic aftershocks in its wake. It should be no surprise then that on the 17th we found ourselves in the ancient waters of Egypt, lifting up a stone pillar from the Gate of the Gods.

2018: Same Great 2017 Taste, with 33% More Apocalypse!

"Some people are falling for it." Of course they are, because those mannequins don't look anything at all like oversized action figures. And the bumpkins and naifs who attend the Consumer Electronics Show aren't used to seeing these kinds of exhibits, right?

But hey, you gotta push those antihuman memes so what's a little white lie for the cause?

Speaking of Neuromancy...

OK, let's backtrack. We have this technology that's straight out of the Sprawl Trilogy (or other, more unearthly sci-fi, perhaps), which "Neuromancy" refers to. It's called "Project Natal," meaning "Project Birth."

Hot MEMES, Summer in the Secrety

It's the doggiest of dog days, everyone's at the beach, and nothing's really going on anywhere, so let's get on with a random grab-bag of memes, shall we?
