A Lot More Sirius Than You Think

Today is the traditional date of the helical rising of the "Dog Star" Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, as well the traditional opening of the Dog Days. Which means it's the perfect time to get together and talk about Sirius and the long history of worship of it.

Warning: for such a bright and beautiful star, the adoration for it can get a lot more serious than you think.

Lucifer's Technologies, Revisited: ESTimate of the Situation

I've been sifting through The Secret Sun archives, which is a lot harder than it sounds. There are thousands of posts that got scrambled by Blogger interface changeover, resulting in walls of unbroken text, multiple fonts and text sizes, misaligned images and paragraph breaks, and all other kinds of digital mischief.

But if you go to the archive listing on the main page you'll see I'm slowly but surely getting a carefully-curated selection of posts back up.

Insane in the Ghislaine: The Janus Twins

Say, did you hear about the rich guy who was obsessed with sex and weird science?

The guy who turned his posh digs into a orgiastic fuckpad where minors were reportedly sexually abused? The guy who was plugged into networks of prominent scientists and luminaries from entertainment and the world of letters?

Secret Star Trek: The Nine & Trek's True Creators

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the first episode of Star Trek to air, 'The Man Trap'. Not one of the more memorable episodes of the series, it still remains a cultural landmark, the launching point of a sci-fi franchise that continues to this day.

And notably it would prominently feature of number of people who'd previously worked on The Outer Limits, including William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, James Doohan, Grace Lee Whitney and Alfred Ryder.

The New Age Unleashed: Resistance is Futile

A link popped up recently in my Facebook feed, titled "Ten Facebook Pages You Need to Stop Sharing From." It was a link to a blog called "Dawn's Brain," the author of which seems to be an art teacher who decided to expand her resume into teaching biology (probably in reaction to arts programs being increasingly targeted by budget-minded administrators).

Everything Old is New Age Again

Though I didn't realize it at the time, the New Age movement was my entry point into the world of alt.whatever some 30 years ago. And it was also an object lesson in how the sandblasting power of consumer culture can reshape everything in its own image. This may seem like a weird detour to be writing about the New Age in these apocalyptic times, but I hope to convince you that it's anything but.

As Ashtar Commands

I've been re-reading John Keel's Operation Trojan Horse and finding I'm not quite as impressed as I was the first time I read it. Before it seemed like a marvelous corrective to ETH orthodoxy, but on re-reading I was often struck by Keel's lack of discernment (if not outright blarney) and kneejerk tendency to ascribe everything to his "Ultraterrestrials."

Obama, Hanuman and the Unknown Nine

On Revelations, I explained my theory to William Henry that the strange ritual behavior we've seen with Barack Obama is based in the same feelings of anxiety that fuel ritual behaviors in people with OCD

Secret Star Trek: Meet the New Gods, Same as the Nine Gods

It's well known that Gene Roddenberry had extensive contacts with the Nine as did Jon Povill, who worked on the show Sliders as well as Synchromystic cult fave Total Recall.
