Secret Sun Picture Parade: Aliens and Egypt, Again

Yahooccultismus strikes again. Quite a juicy semiotic mashup there, the UFO story, the Sun headlines, a Phoenix namedrop, the mer-man links and of course the dogs (as in the Dog Star).

Really a subtle work of genius that most people will completely ignore. Secret Sun readers know better.

Yahooccultism: The Old Ones FTW

The big story from the World Cup was the uncanny predictions of, well, an octopus. Now, I'm not saying there's a conspiracy afoot to gradually program us into worship of the hideous Old Ones, some of whom take a similar form to said octopus. I'm just saying...nothing, really. I'm not saying anything.

Weird story though, eh?

Have You Ever Wondered...

... why we here in America (and several other countries) celebrate Father's Day around the time of the Summer Solstice? Of course, it comes a little earlier in 2012- it will be celebrated on the 17th.

Yahooccultism: The Magick Number 9. Also, 17.

The big event of 9/9/9 was Barack Siskobama's health care speech, which may or may not signal his political resurrection. He let his worst opponents run wild over the summer which severely dampened the morale of his base. But he's been known to use playin' possum as a political technique, so it will be interesting to see if apparent return to form is all part of some ritual cycle. In that light, the photo credit there is certainly interesting.

The first numbers we heard from the New Tut were 700,000 and 1943 (=17). 17 is the 7th prime number.

Egypt, Egypt Everywhere: Night @ Museum II

David D brought up this film in a recent comment, which I had been studiously avoiding. It's still a rental- at best, and a RedBox rental at that- but check out this synopsis:

Super Bowl XLWhatever Semiotics

Two stars, and vaguely familiar stripes...

Well, today's the day of the "Big Game." The Pittsburgh Steelers will face off against the Arizona Cardinals in Tampa. The game will be aired on NBC, the "Peacock Network."* I find it especially interesting that the game is on NBC this year, since last Sunday they aired the excruciating TV mini-series adaptation of Raymond Khoury's The Last Templar, which starred New Jersey's own Mira Sorvino (who won an Ausur® for Mighty Aphrodite).

Maybe this is part three of the story.

There Will Always Be an England

Ben Fairhall has been following the strange goings-on and wildly-conflicting cover stories dealing with the smashed turbine in Lincolnshire. Whatever happened there is open to debate, but the goon squad has been called in nonetheless.

The Great Goddess and the Golden Globes

Tonight we have the poor man's Oscars, the 66th Annual Golden Globes. Fascinating art in light of recent events: an uber-phallic illuminated obelisk flanked by a gauntlet of Phoenix palm trees.

A Very Sirius Presidency: China Syndrome

Well, those of you worried about the economy, have no fear: the White House still has half a million dollars to spend on place settings.

Stargates in the Snow

Here's a big story coming out of China:
A Disneyland made entirely of ice and snow has been built in China's freezing northern city of Harbin as part of the city's Ice Festival.

Local authorities hope the park, featuring Disney characters and rides made of ice, will help attract around 800,000 tourists.

Solar, 17, Bla Bla Bla

Sometimes there are stories that you can't help but wonder are planted in the media for some strange ritual purpose we're not meant to understand. This is one of them.

Sit on It and Rotary

A lot of bloggers are looking askance at a new think tank for young people called the Zenith Global Citizenship Conference, which has been created to promote "(t)he concept of a ‘cosmopolitan citizenship’ (often interchangeable with global citizenship) suggests an allegiance to a new form of global civil society and a new global consciousness that conceptualizes a ‘cosmopolitan order transcending state boundaries and focusing on the rights of individuals.’"

Latest Developments in Sumer

The Helsinki agreement, which was hammered out over meetings in September and April, was signed by 33 politicians from Sunni, Shiite, Kurdish, Turkmen, Communist and other parties.

The document consists of 17 principles, as well as strategies to ensure compliance with those goals. The principles included a commitment to eventually limit arms possession to the government, respect for minority rights and opposition to international and regional influence in Iraq’s internal affairs.

The agreement also included a pledge to integrate the so-called Awakening Councils, and others who have fought against extremists, into state institutions. - NY Times

Philae-Delphi-A: The New City of the Sun?

The Sun's been popping up so much in so many strange contexts that it's really getting past the point of brushing it all off as a design fad. Especially when you look at advertisements like this.

Nectar of the Gods

It appears that Anheuser-Busch will be taken over by a Belgian/Brazilian conglomerate, which is yet another milestone in the dismantling of the illusion of American invulnerability. We're talking about one of the core brands of national identity, especially for a large swathe of Middle American working-class men who treat Budweiser as a near-sacrament.
