The Deep Semiotics of Flight 549, Continued

What would I do without my Secret Sun readers? The smallest details can often be keys to very complex locks, revealing connections that often tie together seemingly-random memes, like a semiotic chain-reaction. And it's often you guys out there that furnish those keys.

UFOs? More like UF-NO's

Around 2011 or so I coined Knowles' Law on UFOs: "The probability that a UFO story is a deliberate hoax is correlative to the amount of mainstream media coverage it receives."

I think this is a very useful law to keep in mind these days.

"Ultraterrestrial Agents of Cultural Deconstruction"

My family and I were discussing the Mandela Effect at Sunday dinner. My daughter-in-law wasn't familiar with it, so we looked up some ME listicles.

The Scam That Fell to Earth

Every few years someone comes along with big plans to get rich off flying saucers. They usually have a lot of money behind them and often have a few questionable friends. And every few years those people quite unequivocally lose large amounts of money on flying saucers.

See, there's no getting rich off flying saucers, because flying saucers are not something you should try to get rich off of.

Ghislaine, Ghislaine, This World is Insane

OK, you've heard the news by now and you can get the lowdown at any number of outlets. You don't come here for the news of the day, you come here to get your fix of "WHAT THE EFF?"

And believe me, we got a LOT of that in store.

I Got Them Ol' Cosmic Cold War Blues Again, Mama.

I'm trying to get some leftover business squared away for good today, so indulge me while I drop some slightly-stale news with some fresh synchliness on your heads. Then open the floor so all you fine folks can share the latest information, gossip and mind-blowing revelations with one another in the comments.

Apocalypse is Just a Word for Things We Do Together.

No, I didn't write that headline. It's on a video about the recent oil field attacks in Saudi Arabia. But I may as well have, way things have been going.

Hey, it's the Apocalypse, right? Maybe we all wrote it together.

Space Farce. Nothing but Space Farce.

For reasons no one can seem to fathom, the Trump Administration launched the rumored Space Force branch of the military thereby officially kicking off the Age of Militarized Space, at least the overt phase in that program.

VP Mike Pence was tapped to make the announcement, just in case anyone might mistake this all as just another skit in the ongoing Donald Trump Variety Hour. No, this is serious as a heart attack. And I can't help but wonder who the intended receiver for this unambiguously-bellicose transmission really is here.

But not all that much.

It's the End of the World As We Know It (and Larry Fine)

Hey, giant extraterrestrial demons on the roof of the most prestigious museum in the western hemisphere? Sure, why not? Go for it. I mean it is 2018, right?

Take a good long look, my friends. You're looking at the future.

Don't worry, they come in peace. Don't he look peaceful? A regular pussycat.

Apocalypse Week in Review: The New Gold Dust Age

That looks comfortable.

Some of you might roll your eyes when I remind everyone else that Apocalypse means "unveiling."

But that's exactly what we are seeing now: all the goodies they've been toiling away on in Lucifer's toyshop since 1947 are getting their great unveilings.

Ready or not, the curtain's being lifted and your new reality is being rolled out. Pucker up.

There's Something in the Sky Tonight

(Oh, please click to enlarge)

So a new movie popped up on Netflix, one I'd actually been waiting to see. It's called The Curse of the Man Who Sees UFOs and it's a documentary about a California-based filmmaker and musician named Christo Rappolo who's been taking videos of strange objects in the sky in his hometown of Monterey.

Cue the Eighties Soundtrack.

Is the endless Seventies tapeloop finally over? Are we reliving the early Eighties again now? Was Stranger Things somehow a harbinger of the changeover of the selections in the Replay Machine?

The Secret Sun on THC

It's been nearly a month since Greg Carlwood and I tore into it for three hours, covering all kinds of ground and any number of different topics.

Happily, Greg was able to make some sense of it all and banged it all into a fairly-coherent 2 1/2 hour chat.

Project Blue Beam: The Hoax that Won't Die.

By far the most read post on this blog is my "Project Blue Beam Exposed" extravaganza, which exhaustively details the source material (old Star Trek scripts) for this long-running hoax.

Stranger Things and the Theater of Blowback

....................................
I'm into my Stranger Things rewatch now. And with the story already told and digested in my mind I find myself, more than anything else, focusing on the patchwork of influences it borrows from.
