The headline had it that the ritual could be "seen from space," and indeed it would have been incomprehensible to anyone less than two thousand feet or so in the air.

I've come to realize just how powerful it is and how unacceptable that power is to many people, even though they experience it themselves. 2008 in Review: The Stairway to Sirius

A year ago, any mention of any kind of extraterrestrial activity here - Sirius, UFOs, AAT - would be purely in the context of pop culture. I had no idea so many of these symbols would begin to bleed (allegedly) into the political sphere. Which, of course, is merely theater of a different kind.
