Return to the Year that Broke Reality

So I had a synchronistic epiphany this past weekend, which seems to have come in answer to my present breakthroughs as to the meaning and purpose of the Sibylline saga. I'm still running the numbers, but so far it looks like I'm on the right path.

What Did They Do to the Ultimate 90s It Girl?

Winona Ryder was THE Nineties It Girl. She ruled the hearts and minds of GenXers across the world (guilty) - and dated a string of A-list rock and movie stars - only to fall from grace in the hardest way at the dawn of the new millennium.

Everything New is Old Again

The Stranger Things Quadragennial wraps up with a specially-curated playlist of songs hitting the airwaves in November of 1983.

And if you're new to all this, be sure to read up on how 1983 was the year that broke reality. I don't know how or why the Duffer Brothers chose that year, but believe me - they chose well.

Something came through the veil in 1983, and we're just now beginning to grasp the enormity of it. Much of what is now being reaped - on a worldwide scale - was first sown forty years ago.

Syncher Things: Must Be a Clash, There's No Alternative

There’s a general consensus that World War One and World War Two weren’t really different wars, but one long war with a twenty-one year armistice.

Stranger Things Quadragennial: The Music that Broke Reality

The early Eighties really were as magical and awesome as you’ve been led to believe, even if the seeds of our future heartaches were being planted in the dark. Me, I was 17 in November of 1983, and it’s remained a lost mystical land I like to escape to when the stars are just right ever since.

Forty Years in the Wilderness of the Unreal

They say History repeats, first as tragedy and then as farce. But how exactly does that work when Reality itself is irreparably broken?

Depressed the holiday's over? Don't be: we'll be capping off the long weekend tonight (July 4th) at 10 PM ET with a deep dive into the unspoken subtexts of Stranger Things 4...

Stranger Things Deep Dive Sizzle Reel

We took a very deep dive on Stranger Things and the real-life horrors lurking behind it during a Secret Sun Institute livestream last night. There's more to come, because to understand where we are today, we need to understand how it all began.

Stranger Things Deep Dive Livestream

Come join us for an epic deep dive on the disturbing history (and unsettling future) behind the Stranger Things phenomenon. There's a lot more going on with this series besides monsters, mind control and Eighties nostalgia.

Sirens, Shimmers and Even Stranger Things

She turned thirteen on...

I'm still in the middle of my Stranger Things 4 watch but I can say definitively that it's leagues above the wretched third season, wherein the writers tried to repurpose the franchise as a comedy and failed like very few things have failed in all of human history.

1983: The Year That Broke Reality

That helmet looks vaguely Kirbyesque

1983 hovers like a wraith over all of my work and I've never been quite sure why. All I know is that I sensed something definitively change in the spring and summer of that year, even if those changes have only become apparent in the past few years.

But all I can say for sure is that something somehow seemed to have entered our world from somewhere else.

420 Reasons to Live

What better way to celebrate 4/20 than to listen to two young chaos magicians and a young(ish)-at-heart Chaos Mystick riffing on a virtual catalog of stoner movies and TV shows and all kinds of synchro-madness?

Apocalypse 2Night: Come, Armageddon, Come.

I never got the whole Dario Argento thing. I mean, I get it; I realize why hipsters would be drawn to his work. It's "stylish" and "surreal" and "transgressive," if you like that sort of thing.

Stranger Things: The Viper's Nest

Gordon White of Rune Soup, Raj Sisodia of Amid Night Suns and I have a round table on Stranger Things 2, which-- spoiler alert-- none of us liked.

Much Stranger Things: Little Spacey

Stranger Things 2 went live on Friday, and much to my surprise, the Duffer Brothers pulled back from the tale-telling of the first season, seeking safe harbor from the superstorm by immersing themselves in the warm glow of other people's nostalgia.

So, an Android and a Mermaid walk into an Orange Julius...

A android named "Sophia" is being carted around the world's chat shows and demanding robot rights. It - or rather its programmers - are also warning of a robotic Helter Skelter.

Cue the Eighties Soundtrack.

Is the endless Seventies tapeloop finally over? Are we reliving the early Eighties again now? Was Stranger Things somehow a harbinger of the changeover of the selections in the Replay Machine?
