FADE OUT: On Hollywood's Visionaries

There are certain things you try to find comfort in on this hideous world, one of which is that once in a while a unique vision shines through the sludge of sameness and finds a niche in the entertainment world.

It gives you a ray of hope, that maybe the Orwellian nightmare we are living in might one day relent.

John Cusack, Superstar: 2012 & the Age of Horus

To recap: John Cusack and his Martian Child co-star Amanda Peet are the leads in Roland Emmerich's latest genocide-fest, 2012. The date most famously comes to us from the Mayan calendar, which is especially fascinating to Graham Hancock as well as people involved in AAT research.

Tuesday Newsday: Farewell Sgt. Howie

ITEM: We've lost the great Edward Woodward, best known as The Equalizer, but rendered immortal for his role in The Wicker Man. Check out a memorial by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz).

Apocalyporn: 2012 or 6 to 4

Seeing that Nineties were the Sixties in reverse, it's strange how much the Naughties feel like the Seventies.

We have a deep recession, an President more interested in platitudes than policy, a mass culture obsessed with sports and celebrity and a fashion culture fixated on decadence and 'transgression'. American politics is still fixated on the same old social wedge issues.

John Cusack, Superstar: Pushing Tin

Well, the full trailer for 2012 is here. And as to be expected from a Roland Emmerich film, it's chock-full of mass destruction and genocide. The guy certainly has a knack for it, doesn't he?

Apocalyptic film seems to have an added appeal during times of malaise like this one- it's the ultimate fantasy of the global reset button. Of course, no one watching pictures themselves amongst the piles of dead the dogs are picking at, they see the blood and fire through the eyes of the stars (John Cusack in this case, re-teamed with Martian Child co-star Amanda Peet) reaching that brand new day on the other side of it- the "Morning After" Maureen McGovern warbled about all those years ago.

Trailer Trash: Nic Cage is KNOWING

Annihilation and human extinction coming to a theatre near you! Directed by Alex Proyas (The Crow/Dark City/I, Robot) and starring good ol' Nic "Ben Star-Gates" Cage. Bonus Synchronicity plot device!

And don't forget Roland Emmerich's 2012 starring John "Superstar" Cusack. Man, we're getting wiped out on the silver screen!

John Cusack, Superstar: Who is Like the Beast?

Grosse Pointe Blank
climaxes with a gun battle between John Cusack's character Martin Blank and Dan Ackroyd's character Grocer. Even if you've seen the film, you may not have noticed this little snippet of dialogue, paraphrased from Revelation 13:

John Cusack, Superstar: Leatherman

Todd Campbell of Through The Looking Glass alerted me to this story earlier in the week.
Woman arrested on suspicion of stalking Cusack

MALIBU, California (AP) -- A woman who was ordered to stay away from John Cusack has been arrested on suspicion of stalking the actor and violating a restraining order. • Emily Leatherman taken into custody in John Cusack's neighborhood • Leatherman has a restraining order against her, must stay away from Cusack • 33-year-old woman "considered a transient in Santa Monica area"
Sometimes I'm just stymied. 33-year old Emily Leatherman is busted when she takes a cab (or Checker chariot) to John Cusack's house and can't pay the fare (shades of Charon, ferry and fare have the same root).

I can't remember the last time John Cusack was in the news and he's being stalked by a 33 year-old bag lady named Emily Leather-man?

Are they trying to make me crazy?

Hathor Locklear, Meet Hathor Graham

The name Heather is said to come from the Middle English hather, which decribes a flower once used in the brewing of beer. But knowing as we do that Druids were merely a branch of the Egyptian Solar priesthoods, it makes sense to assume that this flower was originally named in honor of Hathor, to whom beer was sacred.

John Cusack, Superstar: Lord of the Skies

Sometimes the Symbols turn up in obvious places, sometimes they pop up where you least expect them. In the case of a film like Pushing Tin, a 1999 film starring John Cusack, Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton, it may seem like this romantic comedy would not harbor much potential for high initiate symbolism.

The Ka of Hathor: Hollywood's Royal Kates

Synchromystics will surely know of the Pleaides, the constellation known as the Seven Sisters. Billy Meier's alleged alien friends Semjase and Asket hailed from this constellation, and there's been a lot of speculation concerning the link between the Pleaides and the Stargate.
