Well, here we are in the midst of yet another synchro-storm laden with Siren and Sibylline symbolism. Could it really be any other way at this point in the timeline?
No, of course not. There is no other way.
Let's review: we recently experienced a synchro-squall, when Our Blessed Sibyl prophesied in Liverpool at the end of November.
Our Lady sang to the Siren, as she has been doing this entire year (after not doing so for 12 years, for 17 years before that, and another 12 years prior).
This is all part of a process dating back over 43 years now, in which world-shaking events follow the Sibyl around like a lost puppy.
And wouldn't you know it? Brian Thompson played a Kahn in one of the Mortal Combat films. What a perfect circle.
But that was just a prelude...
And since the Joker archetype is the eternal companion of the Siren, do make note that Mangione got nicked because he was spotted scarfing down some Mickey D's. Must have been desperate.
...which Kahn thoughtfully provides in his telling of the Buddha's Parable of the Strawberry, or La Parabole de la Fraise, for our Francophone friends.
In case you've been hiding under a rock (and who could blame you), here's an update on the big story of the month:
Brian Thompson, CEO of the American UnitedHealthcare company since 2021, was shot and killed outside an entrance to the New York Hilton Midtown hotel in Manhattan, New York City, on December 4, 2024.Thompson was in the city to attend an annual investors' meeting for UnitedHealth Group, the parent company of UnitedHealthcare. He had been criticized for UnitedHealthcare's rejection of insurance claims, and his family reported that he had received death threats in the past. The shooting occurred early in the morning, and the suspect, initially described as a white man wearing a mask, fled the scene.
The story still feels a bit odd, and many questions remain about what's really going on there. But here's the breakdown, as we've been told:
Thompson, 50, was shot just before 7 a.m. last week near a hotel on 54th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, sources told NewsNation. The gunman had been anticipating Thompson to arrive at the hotel for an investor’s meeting, police said. This was a “premeditated, preplanned, targeted attack,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said during a news conference. The suspect was “lying in wait for several minutes.”A suspect, Luigi Mangione, was arrested five days later and charged with the crime.
And here's where the Siren first enters the story.
They had CCTV of the moment (Mangione) pulled out his firearm and shot Mr Thompson, 50, multiple times. They had footage of him escaping on an e-bike into Central Park before getting into a taxi to a bus station where they think he fled the state on an interstate bus.
They had his fingerprints from a water bottle he had purchased at a nearby Starbucks. But they didn’t have their suspect.
Well, they do now. And look out, because the syncs are going to be flying through the air like tracer bullets:
(NewsNation) — Authorities have arrested a person of interest in the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, and little is still known about him or why he may have attacked the executive.Luigi Mangione, 26, was arrested in Pennsylvania on firearms charges and is described by police as a person of interest in the shooting. NewsNation is working to obtain more information on Mangione.Mangione then allegedly told police he was Luigi Mangione with a birth date of May 6, 1998, according to the papers. When officers asked him why he lied, Mangione allegedly said, "I clearly shouldn't have."
"Buckley Court."
Yeah, welcome to the new reality. Make yourself at home.
And since I keep telling you that The X-Files and Cocteau Twins are THE authoritative prophetic texts of our day, whether you like it or not (and my accountant sure as hell doesn't), it's only natural that this would transpire...
The bullet comes courtesy of John Doggett, played by Robert Patrick of Terminator 2 fame.
Brian Thompson is also the name of chap who played the Mighty X's Alien Bounty Hunter. The title is actually a misnomer, because he's actually an Alien Assassin (meaning we never see him collecting any bounties).
But we're just getting started with the insanity, so strap in...
But we're just getting started with the insanity, so strap in...
Brian Thompson first appears in the second-season episode "Colony," which sees running around assassinating - wait for it - unethical health care providers.
And we first see him in action in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where Luigi Mangione got nabbed the other day.
The madcap mishegoss then moves to Mangione's homestate of Maryland, and then on to Martha's Vineyard, where we first see the return of the long-lost daughter, Samantha. Whom the Mulders had assumed was dead, I should add.
Back in Maryland - Bethesda, Maryland, to be exact - the Brian Thompson character arranges a swap of Scully (whom he abducted) for Samantha.
But Brian Thompson - this Brian Thompson - takes a bullet in the head from an FBI sniper, and he and Samantha M. drop into the drink.
Then we see this scene of divers searching the rivers for their bodies the next day...
... which in turn is reminiscent of the search for Mangione's gear, thought to be dumped in the drink in Central Park. Where exactly?
What are the odds, kids. What are the odds?
Now, we last see Brian Thompson as the Alien Bounty Hunter in The X-Files' eighth season episode, "Without." He takes a bullet, bleeds out his toxic green blood, then melts away.
Chris Carter was really obsessed with the Terminator films - note that Brian Thompson not only plays a Terminator-clone of a character, but he also appeared in the first Terminator film.
Chris Carter was so obsessed with the Terminator franchise that he introduced a new batch of Terminator clones in the form of the super-soldiers, who take over abductees' bodies a la Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
So Billy Miles, who we first saw in the pilot episode, becomes one of the new super-soldiers in the eighth season.
And what's his first order of business?
Why, assassinating unethical health care providers, of course!
Where does he start doing so?
Why, in Luigi Mangione's home state of Maryland!
Where else?
We then find out you can tell who's a super-soldier by their characteristic spinal deformities.
And where does that bring us back to?
Why, Luigi Mangione, of course.
It's been said Luigi had a major beef with United Healthcare over a botched spinal operation that left him in chronic pain.
Dude, I can relate. For reals.
Back to Billy Miles, he gets all smushed up in a garbage truck, but seeing as how he's an alien superbeing, he can't be killed.
And hence we get this memorable teaser, where one of his vertebrae starts generating a whole new Billy Miles.
After all, there's always gotta be a Billy somewhere, as well as a Samantha. And a Buckley, for that matter.
We're talking a new mythos emerging here, friends. Or maybe a very old one re-emerging.
Billy Miles was played by Zachary Ansley, who later quit acting to strike it rich in real estate. But before he did so, he appeared in this Outer Limits episode as an alien walk-in who takes possession of some dude played by Jere Burns.
Jere Burns was inevitably pulled into the X-Files' orbit, and appeared in the series' penultimate episode, "Nothing Lasts Forever."
The ep is about a Hollywood-based spirit cooking cult (more or less) and Burns' character is grafted to some poor lass via their spines.
Spines again. Huh.
And would you know it? That same episode also has an assassin running around bumping off unethical health care providers.
Amazing.
Since it's Christmas time, I should mention that the novel Nothing Lasts Forever was the original basis for Die Hard.
Our Lady was offered the role of Katya, Jeremy Irons' moll. Apparently, this came about from the Twins' involvement with Judge Dredd. The role ultimately went to another alt.pop singer with piercing blue eyes (Sam Phillips) but Irons and the Sibyl would soon be linked via Stealing Beauty.
FLOW MY TEARS
It must be noted that the Sibyl's best known prophecy - written about Jeff Buckley on the day he swam to the Siren - was released just over a week before Luigi Mangione was born.
And of course, "Teardrop" later became the opening them for House, MD, pulling us back into the health-care field.
And four days after Mangione was born, we saw the X-Files' episode "Folie a Deux," about a vigilante who goes postal on a corporation, believing his boss is a soul-sucking monster.
I mean, who doesn't, right?
Eleven days after Mangione's birth, we saw this double-header on Sunday night - the season finales of The X-Files and King of the Hill.
The X-Files episode introduces to super-psychic Gibson Praise, whom we later see the Brian Thompson character trying to abduct when he takes a bullet in "Without." And this poor chess-playing chap himself takes a bullet in the teaser.
And King of the Hill?
Here's an excerpt from another desperate plea for my beloved readers to stop dragging their heels and start believing:
Buckley dies - as all archetypal Buckleys must - in the second season finale, titled "Propane Boom." This Buckley buys the farm because of his own stupidity and carelessness, but with the Wal*Mart setting and the subtext of depressing realities of the 90s global economy, it seems all too appropriate today."Propane Boom" and this episode were temporarily pulled due from re-runs on September 11, 2001 due to the terror attacks on U,S, soil and the explosion of the Mega Lo Mart and the aftermath being too similar to the terror attacks. These episodes returned in syndication later in October 2001.
And who should appear at Buckley's funeral when the next season kicks off?
The same Chuck Mangione who celebrated his 84th birthday the day the Sibyl took the stage in Liverpool to sing to the Siren.
And since we have a Buckley, we need a Fraser....
And no, I don't mean the band that initially wanted the Sibyl to be their lead singer.
So I'll tell you once again...
A lot of folks are comparing Luigi Mangione to Daniel Penny, who was recently acquitted for the death of Jordan Neely. You might say he's a lucky-lucky-Penny-Penny.
The late Jordan Neely was best known as a Michael Jackson impersonator.
And you know what that means...
Yes, you do indeed.
And do make note of Brian Thompson's birthday.
So I'll tell you once again...
I mean, come on, already. It's way, way, way past time.
What's it going to take?
