You Are Being Initiated: So, this "OA" thing...

So this "OA" thing seems to have some kind of significance apart from the Netflix series. The key here is the dominance of the O form, indicating it's the primary element.

These Are Gnostic Times

It's been nearly a year since I've posted here, having been overwhelmed by the two irreducible realities in my life: work and chronic pain.

Ray Bradbury: Fare Thee Well, Rocket Man

I read a lot of sci-fi in my younger years, but mostly short stories. To me the short story was sci-fi's native form-- present an idea, initiate a conflict, resolve the conflict and see where the idea stands when the dust all settles.

The 17th Gus Grissom Post

When I first began digging into the Gus Grissom enigma I was driven by a hunch, more than anything. I was poking around Barack Obama's biography after the election and kept stumbling on links to the dead astronaut while cross-referencing dates and places that were important to the Obama campaign.

Our Elusive Companions: They're Watching

What is truly amazing to me is that even though there are strands of commonality between these ultra-vivid nightmares/memories of mine and abduction phenomena, there's no narrative commonality.

Fringe and the SciFi Singularity

I'm not exactly sure why, but my passion for and preoccupation with sci-fi has become practically religious over the past few months.

Secret Sun Picture Parade: The Cosmic Ghost

Well, it's Sync Log time here on The Secret Sun: the previous post dealt with my encounter with a ghost-like anomaly, and sure enough HuffPost and NAZCA NASA team up for this juicy sync about some enormous black hole or something.

Secret Star Trek: The Plumed Serpent

Some believe that 2012 will bring the return of Quetzalcoatl, whose name translates literally into "feathered serpent." And of course the crowns of Egypt were composed of a bird and a snake as well.

The Dreaming Mind and the Invisible Hand

Tracy Twyman just posted part 2 of our conversation and this time the gloves are off. Just a quick bit of Sync Log-style background- I'd been thinking the morning we spoke that I needed to do some more podcasts in order to hone my chops, since it's been a while.

Caprica, or The End is Foretold

I've been wracking my brains trying to figure out why Caprica resonates with me in a way that Battlestar Galactica still has not. It's not that I don't think BSG was well-written, well-acted and well-produced - I certainly do. I always admired the show, but it always had the faint taste of medicine for me.

John C. Lilly and Extreme Psychonautics

John Cunningham Lilly was the inspiration for the book and film Altered States, which we've looked at in great depth in the Alien Dreaming and the Widening Gyre series.

Secret Star Trek: The Prime Suggestive

In between the BSG, Caprica, and Fringe the missus and I have been geeking out on the Star Trek: The Next Generation reruns on SyFy
(I've actually been sneaking/geeking in some SG:A too). Yes, we both hate adulthood. And consensus reality.

Deep Space Nine: Shadows and Symbols

A blue spiral, then a wormhole. Look familiar?

I'm not sure why, but Star Trek has been resonating with me lately in a way it hasn't in a long time. It certainly has nothing to do with the recent feature film, it's something else I can't quite put my finger on.

Almost in a way The X-Files did ; the same kinds of synchronistic emanations have been hitting me left and right.

Secret Star Trek: The Second Coming of Sisk-O-Bama

The gift that keeps on giving...

The grand final of the Norway missile/rocket event is not only fascinating because of its proximity to the Nobels and the weird synchronistic emanations that resulted from it, it also struck as being strangely familiar visually...

TVOD: (Battle)Stargate Universe

"A Stargate for the rest of us," the headline reads, and so far that seems to be the case. The Stargate movie was a good old-fashioned guilty pleasure, but the two series- SG-1 and Atlantis- strike me as nothing more than elaborate fan fiction or LARP.

Star Trek: The ReGenesis of Gus Grissom

“I grew up on Star Trek.
I believe in the final frontier.” - Barackobamun

Just about this time last year I was looking at the strange semiotic links between
Star Trek and a young, up and coming politician, who had just secured the Democratic nomination for President.

Alien Dreaming: Transformers Gonna Transform

If you've been in a cave the past few weeks, you've probably missed the thousands of images of Megan Fox relentlessly posing at various premieres of the new Transformers movie.

Secret Star Trek: Dawson's Trek

Well, I almost hate to say it, but this Onion video pretty much nails my reaction to the new Star Trek.

I thought it was great fun - a highly entertaining and extremely well-produced thrill ride. Visually, this may be the best space opera to date. All the creatives involved seem to be die-hard fans trying to bring the concept back to basics and make it appealing for today's audiences.

But therein lies the rub, as some obscure Trek villain might say.

Secret Star Trek: Charlie is 17

For a concept created by a self-confessed atheist, there are a hell of a lot of gods in Star Trek. I've been watching selected episodes of Deep Space Nine in a state of utter disbelief (the show is unvarnished religious drama of a very strange variety) but the very same themes we see in that show are abundant in the original series as well.
