The Apocalypse Makes for Strange Bedfellows

When it rains it pours: my old pal Derek Gilbert of SkywatchTV invited me on to his podcast to talk about the Lovecraft-Alice Bailey nexus, and we ended up touching on a whole host of other topics such as the Sorcerarchy, demonology and the existential evil of the Bush Crime Syndicate and their neocon toadies.

Code-Breaking the Craft: It Takes Two

What we're looking at isn't about a religion or a fraternity, it's about the entire foundation of all high-initiate ritualism, spanning back thousands -- perhaps even tens of thousands -- of years. Rituals that were mind-crushingly ancient before the world ever even heard of Abraham or Jesus, never mind Albert Pike.

Earn Your Scentless Apprentice Degree! Absolutely Freem!

The Freemasons are the big kahunas when it comes to symbolism, aren't they? The only problem is that I don't think most of them understand their own symbols, and tend to get very flighty and flowery when you ask them to explain it.

Life in the Fast Ghislaine

Something extremely strange is going on, strange even in the context of 2020. I can't rightly figure exactly what as yet, I can only poke around the edges of it.

The Last Wave

As the cold civil war rages on in Washington, the war for survival makes an utter mockery of our pathetic delusions that we could ever even dream of becoming the masters of this domain.

We're simply reaping the benefits of a vanishingly-brief armistice in the war Stepmother Nature has been waging since before Time began.

CRISPRs from the Black Lagoon

I saw a funny story the other day. Apparently a bunch of scientists at Oxford declared that not only is Earth life unique in the galaxy, it's unique in the Universe.

I'm guessing they know this because they've been there themselves.

Cthulhu's Stepchildren: Horrors from the Deep

Those Old Ones were gone now, inside the earth and under the sea; but their dead bodies had told their secrets in dreams to the first men, who formed a cult which had never died. -- HP Lovecraft, "The Call of Cthulhu"

It's (Mermaid) Apocalypse Now!

We shall swim out to that brooding reef in the sea and dive down through black abysses to Cyclopean and many-columned Y’ha-nthlei, and in that lair of the Deep Ones we shall dwell amidst wonder and glory for ever.
- HP Lovecraft, "The Shadow Over Innsmouth"

Our Strange Skies: 'Tis a Magic Place

Well, of course it all began with a UFO sighting.

There was an old saying, "When your neighbor loses his job, it's a recession. When you lose your job, it's a depression." So when your son has a high-quality UFO sighting, it's a 'flap', then when you and other family members have one a couple weeks later, I guess it's a 'wave'.

The Secret Sun Year in Review: 2014 Edition

I started blogging again after a ten-month break with the piece "These are Gnostic Times." This was a confession as much as an article, and I do try to make everything I post here read as much like a proper article as much as possible.

Everything In Its Right Place

I'm of the opinion that genuine weirdness is usually an intimate affair. And as much as the capital 'S' Skeptics-- many of whom are in fact neurologically wired with various perceptive challenges-- yell and scream and rend their clothing,

Yahooccultism: The Old Ones FTW

The big story from the World Cup was the uncanny predictions of, well, an octopus. Now, I'm not saying there's a conspiracy afoot to gradually program us into worship of the hideous Old Ones, some of whom take a similar form to said octopus. I'm just saying...nothing, really. I'm not saying anything.

Weird story though, eh?

Trailer Trash: Tommyknockers and Night Tides

Here's a movie that I saw and kinda wish I didn't: the TV adaptation of Stephen King's Quatermass and the Pit ripoff tribute, The Tommyknockers.

Must-See TV: The Invisibles

What do you get when you cross Lovecraft's Chthulu mythos and Heinlein's Puppet Masters and throw in a dash or two of Darker Than You Think? You get this nail-biting episode of The Outer Limits.

Classic Sun: Stuart Gordon's Dagon

Stuart Gordon, a veteran of 60's experimental theater, first burst onto the screen with his extremely loose adaptation of HP Lovecraft's short story, "Herbert West, Re-Animator".

Amun Rising: The Curse of King Tut's Tomb

Ever wonder what a remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark might look like if Indiana Jones was portrayed by a square-jawed, straight-to-video stud with the acting chops of a tree stump?
