The Last Wave

As the cold civil war rages on in Washington, the war for survival makes an utter mockery of our pathetic delusions that we could ever even dream of becoming the masters of this domain.

We're simply reaping the benefits of a vanishingly-brief armistice in the war Stepmother Nature has been waging since before Time began.

Birth Bags and Ballyhoo

In a related story, I hear folks are fixing to use them computer gimcracks pretty soon. And I also hear they're talking about sending the television picture shows through wires, like Ma Bell or something. Ain't that just the living end?

Well, until the clones come calling, enjoy this little slide show of completely random and totallly unrelated clippings. Just a few unconnected headlines and stuff. Y'know, just to pass the time on a sunny September afternoon...

That Joker Isn't Funny Anymore

Well, Secret Sun September may be winding down now but it seems it still has a few surprises left for us. The latest is the release of makeup tests for the new Joker standalone movie, which will be starring Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role.

Hey, Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto? It's only logical that Phoenix would land the iconic role, right? I mean, who else would you expect, right?

It's all the more logical if you're a diehard Secret Sun reader....

Twilight of the Mortal

Dolphins again...

OK, so I'm really trying to get this monster of a tome I've been writing for the past three years put to bed. I'm in the homestretch with the second draft but it's getting so huge I may have to go back and see if there aren't any darlings that might need killing.

But having spent my entire career in publishing (such as it is) eyeing the word count ticker like a doomsday clock, I've resolved to give myself as much room as I need and let the stones fall as the will.

PseudoScience Monday: Sunspots on My Shoulders

Obelisk much?

Well, the mysterious closing of the Sunspot Observatory in New Mexico has been followed by an equally mysterious reopening. It's not every day a Federal installation is evacuated under military orders and left deserted for several days.

But this is 2018 and the rulebooks for normal have been delisted, shadowbanned and deleted.

KIller Clowns from Other-Space

I've been trying to wrap my head around the events of the past two weeks, on account it seems like somebody might have opened a Gate or broken a Seal somewhere. I'm still waiting for some fresh shoes to drop so please bear with me while the apocalyptic cake bakes. But then again, you don't probably need to tell you just how weird everything seems to have gotten out there, as if the Watchers may have come back from vacation and wanted to hit the ground running.

Well, we know how this all started, but the Secret Sunnification of the entire world isn't truly complete without a certain quartet of apocalyptic horsemen. And right on cue, they done rode into town...

"It Looked Like Armageddon"

.
A lot of readers asked my opinion of the Sunspot observatory closing. Truth be told it was tough to comment on since there was so little information to actually comment about. And as we do around here, I was looking for the tendrils leading to a bigger beast.
.
And on Thursday it all got thrown into perspective, at least for me.

Yeah, I got a few little syncs you might find interesting. Y'know, just for grins and giggles.

Go on, take a click. It'll be a hoot and a holler, I guarantee.

Don't be shy, now...

Sync or Swim: An Apollonian Spirit Rising

"Above anything else (Apollo) was a god of oracles and prophecy - and the oracles he gave out were riddles, full of ambiguities and traps.
"It was the people who believed everything was bright and clear who ended up in trouble."

Keep Rollin', Rollin', Rollin' (Down the River Styx)

Well, that Old Devil Time strikes again and takes another giant away off the boards. Burt Reynolds had what you might call a checkered career but when I was a kid he was nothing less than what nearly every red-blooded American male aspired to become.

Burt Reynolds was the alpha-male's alpha male. He was a boss's boss.

So why then shouldn't he find himself pulled feet-first into the vortex of the most confounding enigma of our times? I'd expect nothing less.

This has certainly been the week for it...

Sync or Swim: Tokyo Storm Warning (UPDATE)

As usual there is way too much going on out there for me to keep with. And it all seemed to really kick in as soon as our calendar turned to September.

I realize you all hate when I talk like this but I have to admit I've been feeling a tad on the doomy-gloomy side about what exactly might be barreling towards us.

I hope I can help you see why. I hope even more you can convince me I'm wrong.
