Another day, another precocious and gifted young actress/singer swims to the Siren.
Where will it end?
Tragic actress Hayden Panettiere suffered a cardiac arrest following a suspected overdose at a South Carolina apartment, according to chilling 911 dispatch audio.
Panettiere’s unidentified pal called 911 at 1:51 p.m. Sunday from a Greenville, SC, apartment to report an “unresponsive female” in “cardiac arrest,” according to dispatch audio obtained by The Post.
Panettiere checked into rehab in 2020 and spent eight months receiving treatment for her alcohol and drug addiction.
She recalled in “This is Me: A Reckoning,” that doctors told her she risked being dead within five years if she didn’t stop drinking.
Hayden Panettiere’s only sibling was her younger brother, Jansen Panettiere, who tragically passed away in February 2023 at the age of 28. He died from cardiomegaly (an enlarged heart) and aortic valve complications.
Yes, I am thinking the same thing you're thinking.
DEADLY PATTERN
Truly OG Sunners will remember Hayden showing up way back in the very earliest days of the blog (here, here, here, and here) on account of her starring as Claire in the NBC series Heroes.
Granted, she dropped off my radar when she went on to other things, but I do believe I've been known to use terms like "adorable little cupcake" to describe the diminutive actress.
But as we see all too often with former child actors and (particularly) actresses, Hayden was deeply troubled and lost custody of her only child due to her ongoing substance abuse struggles.
Her career had its ups and downs, but she did have success as a popular character in the Scream franchise and the TV series Nashville. But she seemed to fall into a tailspin after Nashville ended, and appeared in mostly low/no-budget projects until her untimely passing.
Many are comparing her to Daveigh Chase, whom we lost in June, and Hayden's one-time costar Michelle Trachtenberg, who left us in February of last year. But Hayden's trajectory wasn't nearly as grim as Daveigh's; in fact, she'd been enjoying a bit of a renaissance following the publication of her autobiography in May.
In her memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning, late actress Hayden Panettiere described an unsettling experience at age 18 where a trusted friend placed her in a bed with a "famous thirtysomething British singer-songwriter" on a yacht.
Panettiere recounted that she fled the room and left the boat immediately after realizing the situation, reflecting on how vulnerable she was at that stage in her life.
Online and media retrospectives connected the 2009 yacht trip and social circle details to singer James Blunt, though Panettiere did not explicitly name him in the book.
Public archives and contemporaneous reports from 2009 placed Panettiere and James Blunt together on a group luxury yacht trip in Cannes, prompting online speculation and media coverage linking him to the anecdote.
And variously:
Hayden Panettiere appeared on a recent episode of the “On Purpose With Jay Shetty” podcast and recounted one of the more shocking revelations from her upcoming book, “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” in which the “Nashvhille” and “Heroes” star remembers being lured by friend of hers into a room and told to get in bed with a famous male actor who was naked. Panettiere was 18 years old at the time.
The older "trusted friend" in question was believed by some to be socialite Diana Jenkins:
For over a decade, online blind items and internet culture speculated that Diana Jenkins' coffee table book Room 23 was secretly a "high-end catalog" of call girls for wealthy international clients.
These rumors resurfaced heavily when Jenkins joined The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2022. Jenkins strongly defended herself on the show, calling the rumors a defamatory "offense to my character." She subsequently filed defamation lawsuits against bloggers spreading the claims, resulting in public retractions.
What I know—or care—about either James Blunt or Diana Jenkins could easily fit into a thimble, so I have no opinion on this particular matter.
All I can say is that no one should ever be surprised if it comes out that a young and vulnerable actress was sexually trafficked by powerful people. I'd almost be tempted to say you should be surprised if she were not.
I've speculated the same about Winona, who was passed around Hollywood back in the 90s like a bad cold. But pimping out starlets for cash and favors has been Hollywood's modus operandi since day one.
It's just how business is done out there.
And I'd imagine that if Hayden were being sexually exploited in her youth, it would go a long way towards explaining why she hooked up with a Ukrainian boxer who was more than twice her body mass. She needed his protection.
We'll leave aside how Ukraine was once named as the sex trafficking capital of Europe, at least for now.
And then there's the usual numerology that always wells up in these cases; that's just the way the world really works.
But like Daveigh, what is especially interesting about Hayden's case is the baldly-explicit Fraserology.
THE FRASEROLOGY
Let's have a look at the cast and elevator pitch for the harrowing 2007 documentary, The Cove.
Hayden Panettiere and Hannah Fraser teamed up in October 2007 in Taiji, Japan. They joined a high-profile dolphin protection protest. Surfer David Rastovich organized the event. Actress Isabel Lucas also joined them.
The Goal: Stop the brutal slaughter of thousands of dolphins in Japanese waters.
So do note that Hayden undertook this particular mission with an Elizabeth (Isabel Lucas), a David (who's a son, obviously), and a Fraser.
Say it with me now, friends: "It never ends."
BONUS FACTOID: Isobel Lucas took some very major heat for her resistance to the Covid agenda, not to mention some outspoken dissidence on 5G.
And Hannah Fraser (AKA "Hannah Mermaid") also appeared on the same episode of 20/20 as your humble host way back in the day.
There's also the fact that Hayden's first-ever role was playing "Mermaid"...
And that her final role (Sleepwalker, released in January) was a lost-daughter narrative.
And apropos of absolutely nothing on earth, Hayden also voiced a character named "Samantha" in the Until Dawn video games.
Oh, and (former British military officer) James Blunt went to school near the Sibyl's sanctum sanctorum.
And Hayden also briefly appears in a music video by Jason Aldean, a featured player in the Heaven Upside Down or Las Vegas ritual drama.
I mean, if anyone out there still doesn't believe you're simply lying to yourself. I don't mean to offend, but what else can I say at this point?
That said, let's all say a prayer and light a candle to a beautiful and gifted young woman who made the world a little brighter during her time on this Earth.
I'd like to say I hope to never write another of these types of posts, but you know what they say about hope not being a strategy...
