Apocalypse This Week: Charting the Collapse

I never got the whole Dario Argento thing. I mean, I get it; I realize why hipsters would be drawn to his work. It's "stylish" and "surreal" and "transgressive." If you like that sort of thing.

Me, I just find his film-making clunky and more than a bit mentally-sick. And not in a tormented visionary way, more in a Doc and Mharti or Boiled Angel kind of way. It's more like the aesthetic of John Wayne Gacy's clown paintings transliterated to film, for me at least.

I guess that's the appeal, the "outsider" aura of it all. Whatever. Yawn.

Even so, the timing couldn't possibly be worse for this slick remake of Argento's best-known film, Suspiria.

Of course he was 17

Argento's daughter Asia has been in the spotlight since the #metoo movement kicked up and more recently in the wake of the Anthony Bourdain suicide and questions of her behavior and/or fidelity and how that may have influenced the late superstar chef.

Since then some folks have been taking a closer look at Asia's social media and finding all kinds of icky shit to sort through. Let's just say it's looking like Asia might be a bit more Madame Blanc than Suzy Bannion, if you get my meaning.

Well, all that seemed to prime the pump for the latest eruption when a young actor Asia seemed to have a very sick and weird fixation on a young man who recently revealed that Asia forced herself sexually on him when he was a wee lad of 17.

I know what you're thinking: "yeah, whatever. Poor kid."

But further digging turned up a bizarre and unsettling history in which Asia revealed a weird, quasi-incestuous fixation on the actor from a very early age, dating back from when the two appeared in an adaption of notorious literary hoaxer JT Leroy's magnum opus The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things, a grimly ironic title if ever there was one.

Well, not only has this delivered a blow to the #metoo business it's given yet another look behind the curtain at the entertainment industry's "edgy" personalities and leading a lot of folks to wonder if maybe things are maybe getting a bit too edgy for their liking.

Case in point, this viral(-ish) video revealing how NBC chose to segue from a report on the death of its onetime champion John McCain...

Yeah, that stupid shit was shown on a major network, not some weird YouTube channel that no one watches except people listed on sex-offender registries.

Take a good look, America, because this is where the culture is today.

This may be the most 2018 video ever. Which should fill your hearts with the kind of dread and despair usually only seen in Lovecraft anthologies.

 Come, Armageddon, come.

And this may be the most 2018 image ever. Though not for the reasons most people might think. Come feel the Deep, indeed.

I realize a local supermarket bulletin board (I mean, the actual wood-and-cork kind) has more actual readers than Time does these days but this is still a fascinating look at conscious and unconscious meta-themes converging.

Since I still don't believe for a millisecond that The Donald Trump Variety Hour is anything but a misdirection while massive tectonic plates shift silently beneath our feet, I'll refrain from commenting on the latest skit.

Too many people seem to forget we've been stuck on this sandbar more times than I can count in the past two years or so and the showboat keeps rolling down the river just the same.

You'd think that someone would realize by now that casting prophecies is a sucker's game with this particular act.

On an entirely different topic (or is it?) I can say with absolutely certainty that this video provides more entertainment value than the entirety of Stranger Things 2.

The Duffers have announced they're going to take their time with ST3. I'll take that as conformation that even they realize by now that ST2 was boring and terrible.

Or in other words the Duffers realize it was duff. Encouraging. Here's hoping they get a little bit of the old righteous anger back as well.

Leonard Bernstein would have turned 100 this past week. That milestone offers up a good opportunity to soak in this wonderful tutorial on Holst's The Planets.

Before you get too comfortable, however, realize then that in less than 50 years we've gone from Leonard Bernstein's Young People's Concerts to Lil Pump and Lil Xan and Post Malone.

Do you need any further proof that it's the end of the world as we know it?

I thought not.

Who then more fitting then than David Lynch's First Fraserling Julee Cruise to serenade us all into that long good night?

Speaking of whom, the initial demos Cruise recorded with Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti are available on BandCamp. Pretty obvious to my ears that Lynch was spending a lot of time listening to Victorialand when this was recorded. And from the "Otterly"-like intro of "Floating," probably a lot of Treasure as well.

Finally, from that raging foundry of alt.right hysteria-- um, Boing Boing-- comes this take on Facebook's new user rating system. Well, we all knew it was just a matter of time before the Chinese social credit rating reached these shores, it was simply a question of what exact form it would take.

There's your answer.

Read the entire article here (as well as BB's previous articles on FB) and then...

And I suppose that drowning coincides with "It's The end of the world as we know it" and "tectonic plates shift".

A good sink to think, Trump could be seen to be flailing, that his head's above water may not be good - for him - we cannot see what's keeping him afloat, saved from drowning (for the moment he maybe) but the coup de grâce could be taking on a different form.

  3. Are we ready for the era of radical transparency and negative privacy where other people know more of your secrets than you? It doesn't matter if you are ready. It doesn't matter if you are literally sick from having to accept other people's disturbing desires or horrific experiences. The information must flow. There was a dream long, long ago about how all of this was supposed to make our lives better but nobody can quite remember what it was.

    1. I actually remember the Internet of "information wants to be free".

It was the times when .com was just another domain name ending, not the ending that just about everything has. In other words, when commercial companies didn't make up 99.99% of what you see on the Internet.

"Information wants to be free" was about hackers wanting to get into government and commercial databases. Of course that couldn't be accepted. The powerful must retain their privacy.

But they did like one bit of that philosophy. The bit of extracting info from individuals. In fact, they don't even care that much about info any more. They have already gorged themselves with all the info they could possibly want.

Now they want your lovely energy. Your attention. And they're getting it.

You, of course, being powerless, may have nothing of their info or their attention.

'Kirk's' son 'Michael Douglas' was the male lead of 'Disclosure' (& 'Coma' - both written by Michael Crichton, 'The Star Chamber' & 'Falling Down'), having viewed the trailer there's a number of otherworldly spooky connections: Donald Sutherland plays his boss, the words 'Trust No One' appear on a computer screen & Douglas uploads a digital avatar of himself into a Virtual Reality realm in the hopes of retrieving data vital to secure his position & reputation after he's accused of sexual misconduct at work, he plays his own 'Deepthroat' in a way.

'Falling Down' was released a year earlier & stars Dougie as another computer (in the original sense) of sorts who breaks his societal programming & goes on a one-man mission to defeat the intersectionalizing forces keeping him from seeing his daughter on her birthday.

Dougie has mixed fortunes with on-screen wives & sexual partners - 'Basic Instinct', 'Fatal Attraction'...

As noted by Anony 5:41 Argento's pay-off played the child-Kirk (a star-fated kid) in the altered-universe that is the jjverse 'Star Trek' movies, the scene he features in is soundtracked by 'Sabotage' as hollered by the 'Beastie Boys' (played again in 'Star Trek: Beyond' as a conflagration ignites), what hybrid is berthed by such a casual & slapdash splicing of these unrelated elements & signs (besides diminishing box-office returns & eventual cancellation)?

    1. It's funny how Chris mentioned Leonard Bernstein in this post as those two beached dolphins were dancing and pumping themselves to 'You Light Up My Life' a song from the 1977 movie of the same name and made famous by Edith Conn (née Bernstein; July 13, 1951) professionally known as Didi Conn and who lip-synced the song in the movie.
Didi Conn's brother is opera singer Richard Bernstein.
The song was written by Joseph Brooks and sung for the film's soundtrack by Kvitka "Kasey" Cisyk.
The song was later recorded by Debby Boone, and upon its release, it was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a record-setting 10 consecutive weeks, making it the biggest hit of the 1970s.
It earned Debby Boone a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
Debby Boone was born on September 22, which is pretty much the Spring equinox in my part of the world, but the Fall equinox in her part of the planet.
An equinox is commonly regarded as the moment the plane of Earth's equator passes through the center of the Sun, which occurs twice each year, around 20 March and 22-23 September. In other words, it is the point in which the center of the visible sun is directly over the equator.
On September 27, 2008, Didi Conn performed with David Shire and Lynne Wintersteller at a benefit performance for Barack Obama in Nyack, New York.
In 2013, she starred as "Pearl" in the play A Heap of Livin' by Elliot Shoenman, at The Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles.
      Just sayin';-)

The opening credits came on with music by Angelo Badalamenti. It makes sense in addition to Twin Peaks, Fire Walk with Me, Lost Highway & Blue Velvet, that he was involved in another with a dreamy quality. Since I haven't watched that version yet, I looked to see if they used any of Elizabeth Fraser's or Julee Cruise's music. I can't take this culture either. But my old man couldn't stand mine. He came from Big Bands & Jazz & thought rock was simplistic noise. After having listened to oodles of Big Band music, Jazz, Classical, etc., in my life, I'm not sure he was wrong. Place any of it against anything popular when I was a kid, like, say, Wang Dang Sweet Poontang and his point becomes glaringly obvious. 1. Wow. Gullible, eh? I saw that photo from the press conference and I was like, c'mon now. Knock it off.

  22. So the abused is an abuser? A tale as old as time Itself. Why have the mediators seen fit to tell this tale once again - what is served by repeatedly making information like this part of the informing cycle? Is this a play, along with those articles & tedx talks looking to redefine the conscience of the mediated, to accept the normalisation of predation & pedophilia? I say normalise but what most, when asked, would state as being obscene has gone on & goes on openly & unhindered for millennia, so do people truly believe such things are obscene & deserving of being stopped no matter what? Maybe It's all just a further rubbing of our collective face in the dirt - a low grade adrenachrome-hit for those feasting on depravity whilst they await the serving up of the next Spirt Cooked morsel.

Let's not forget the '#metoo movement', not withstanding the wrongs being brought to light, channelled 'pizzagate' concerns (damped down as 'conspiracy theory' by the 'fake news' warning msm) to serve Itself & all for what so as to be ultimately undermined by itself? That's a twist of the knife - quite a Dario Argento-esque plot twist at that.

    1. The less time I spend thinking about the Argento's and their crazy brains I find the happier I am. That girl ain't right.

So to make a long story short, I can't answer any of your questions.

  23. Trump's head is above water on Time's cover, he takes on a Vitruvian aspect suspended by the firmament, his tie somewhat tentacular, his head's not shown though - is this to suggest he hasn't quite finished playing his part in the Working he shills for - has he not fully committed to his paymaster's 'Art of The Deal'? Qanon & It's anonys would like to think so even as 'the swamp' remains undrained.

The Orange One's celebrated/decried as bulwark, if not push-back of that birth-bagging 'intersectionality' & all the other mutated tulpas assaulting Humanity, but he's nothing of the sort, he's not 'the head' of a revival he is 'the last man' overseeing the decline of Humanity to the point when the mkculturing of our species is secured so as to transform us into something "somewhere over the rainbow".

  24. Does intersectional poster-tween* Millie Bobby Brown know that the company she works for, Netflix, released a film, 'Desire', earlier this year that features a scene in which a 9yr old (that number AGAIN) masturbates to orgasm? ...whatabout Sadie Sink? Has she not got anything to say about It? The Duffers don't seem to, "The Show Must Go On" the tail must be told, there's money to be made & the mkculturing of viewers isn't complete.

'Stranger Things' cast, crew, & 'MBB' Itself on 'MBB':

"Millie has these incredible instincts - I don't know where they come from but let's just let this happen & stay out of her way"

    "Millie was a gift"

"She's able to convey more without a word than many actors convey with monologues"

"Eleven is kind of like an alien..."

"Season 1... I didn't prepare at all... that's why Eleven came out how she did"

"Is Eleven gonna pop in the way that we all want her too"

"What she does with her eyes... this was all... designed by an eleven year old girl"

As for the degeneration of music as a sign "☮" the end times, the fin de scìele/dawning of a new millennium soundscape as embodied by Cruise's pre-Dido-esque cover of an R.E.M. hit sung the pop-occludists Siren song that's brought our globalised culture the likes of 6is9ine, Ariana Grande & all the other poppets, 6ix9ine in particular being one continuing the work the likes of Gary Glitter (a third, fourth... rate Bowie-clone-wannabe if ever there was) did back in the day when 'music had soul'.

On this topic of abuse & investigation of abuse being used to reinforce & repeat the rituals of abuse, the trailer for the third series of 'True Detective' is out, I've no idea what's stated in the voiceover though as It's a mumbled monologue.

(*MBB perhaps silent knowing her place in the hierarchy of oppression?)

Brest frisky dolphin sparks French swimming ban

Heard an interview on BBC radio today interviewing the Erwan me Cornec mentioned in the article. I thought you would be amused by his enthusiasm for this dolphins friskiness.

  27. I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting my
own blog and was wondering what all is required to get setup?
I'm assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny?
I'm not very web smart so I'm not 100% sure. Any suggestions or advice
    would be greatly appreciated. Kudos

  29. Queen Beyphomet and her consort "Jigga Man" was accosted on stage the other day during a concert performance by a "crazed fan". Reports are contradictory about Jay Z actually being assaulted but there are reports he was punched in the face by the attacker that jumped on stage.

Some are claiming it was just a publicity stunt but the response from the back up dancers and finally Bey's & Jigga man security team suggests otherwise and it was most likely a legit attack.

Ah it was also covered by CBS and they claim no harm came to "Jigga Man" despite earlier claims.

    1. Jesus, that's what JayZ refers to himself as now? Apparently so. Gross.

Maybe JZ was attacked by a concertgoer who thought he was paying to hear *competent* rapping. I can understand his anger and confusion.

  30. Somehow C.K. has tapped into the papertrail that reveals the entirety of our reality unraveling. Although I think T.Twyman's recent comments are worth considering. Just because they can fuck with us MORE and HARDER, doesn't mean there's something REAL beneath all of their LIES.
