Winona, Interrupted: Black Swans, Red Flags and Beta Sex Kittens

Back in the '00s and '10s there was a lucrative cottage industry based on theories about mind-control and "supersoldier" programs, with a parade of self-proclaimed survivors from MKULTRA and Monarch and the like coming out of the woodwork.

Unfortunately, most of these theorists seemed to model their conceptions of human experimentation and mind control based on Eighties G.I. Joe cartoons and straight-to-DVD sci-fi thrillers. (And don’t me started on the blue chickens either).

At the same time, you saw the rise of sites like Pseudo-Occult Media and Vigilant Citizen, which scoured fashion magazines and music videos for evidence of MK programming. Motifs like butterflies, "one eye" poses, broken mirrors, mannequins and "sex kitten" symbolism were called out as attempts to trigger MK sleepers, or brainwash the unsuspecting masses, or what have you.

It got to be a kind of recurrent loop, with conspiracy sites and occultists in media reacting and responding, feeding each other material to their mutual benefit. It's still going on to some extent.

But despite all the bandwidth these sites burned, no one ever seemed to pay attention to the actress whose life and career comeback were provably bookended by MKULTRA.

So, seeing as how The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave by Fritz Springmeier & Cisco Wheeler was a foundational text for a lot of theorists, let's see what they claim about Monarch MK programs:

The basis for the success of the Monarch mind-control programming is that different personalities or personality parts called alters can be created who do not know each other, but who can take the body at different times.

The amnesia walls that are built by traumas, form a protective shield of secrecy that protects the abusers from being found out, and prevents the front personalities who hold the body much of the time to know how their System of alters is being used.

The mind creates avoidance patterns to protect itself from thinking about the trauma. Panic symptoms occur when the person undergoes physiological arousal to traumatic cues.

Let me just say I don't go for the Monarch thing, per se. It all feels a bit disinformational, given that it popped up at a time when the US gov't was issuing apologies for all the horrific human experimentation it funded.

Plus, no one had ever heard anything about it until 1995 when TRANCEformation of America was published, followed by Fritz Springmeier and Cisco Wheeler's book the following year. A lot of veteran conspiracy theorists at the time dismissed the entire topic out of hand, citing the near-total lack of evidence for the alleged program.

That being said, I have no doubts at all that some of the shenanigans documented in the MONARCH literature have real-life corollaries. As someone once said, "A lie is best hidden between two truths."

But while I may have my suspicions, I try not to blab them all over the Internet without solid documentation to back them up. But there are times when you see red flags waving all over the damn place, but you just can't nail down the receipts.

So in cases like Winona's, I like to be upfront and admit I'm deep into speculative waters even though my spidey-sense is buzzing like hell. I trust my readers to come to their own conclusions.

So let’s get into it…

Winona's “supersensitive” image made her a target for ghouls inside and outside Hollywood. After candidly confessing her depression and anxiety struggles in a 1999 interview with Diane Sawyer, the media wrote her off as “crazy”, and mocked Winona's openness. "I went from 'weirdo teenager' to 'pixie waif' to them not knowing what the hell to do with me," Winona confessed.

Unfortunately, no one seemed to focus on what exact symptoms Winona was experiencing, and how they pointed in a very specific direction. By that I mean insomnia, nightmares, anxiety, and depression are all strongly tied to PTSD, and listed as its diagnosable symptoms. (Phobia is considered a "related outcome" of PTSD, though not necessarily a core symptom).

Now, in working on this series I have come across rumors and anecdotes that I can't corroborate, but got me wondering if whoever might have been controlling Winona was using her for, let’s say, troubling purposes.

What do I mean by that?

Well, Winona earned the unflattering nickname "Wanna Ride Her" in the Nineties, due to her perceived promiscuity. Gossip columns had her linked romantically to Johnny Depp, Christian Slater, Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum, Tre Cool of Green Day, Evan Dando, Jay Kay of Jamiroquai, Dave Grohl, David Duchovny, Daniel Day-Lewis, Paul Westerberg of The Replacements, Ed Burns, Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind, Matt Damon, Page Hamilton of Helmet, Chris Noth, Beck, Ryan Adams, Pete Yorn, and Jimmy Fallon. Rumors had her engaged in quickie hookups with several other notables.

This is quite a celebrity body count by any measure, but not totally unheard of in Hollywood. It wouldn't be until I read about the Bono and Dodi Al-Fayed connections that I began to at least consider more disturbing potentialities.

So, anyone else catching a certain whiff in the air?

If not, let's take a walk on the wild side and see what the whole "Beta sex kitten" thing is all about in Springmeier and Wheeler's MONARCH lore...
