Synchro-Squall: Lovecraft's Ghost Lingers

Admit it, when I first got on this whole Lovecraft thing after the Epstein superstream, you were scratching your head and thinking, "Lovecraft? What the hell does Lovecraft have to do with anything?"

Hell, I was half-wondering that myself.

As it happens, it turns out ol' Howie has everything to do with it.

You've all heard the latest tragedy, with Rob Reiner and his wife being savagely murdered by their basketcase of a son, Nick. As soon as I heard the initial reports I knew that this was a domestic situation, but had no idea how bad it really was. Seems Hollywood titans spawn a lot of trainwrecks, no?

And I started to wonder if the hard turn Reiner took with the politics was really the by-product of the incredible stress he was going through dealing with a violent addict. Parents - or anyone who's had to deal with an addict - will understand.

It's a shame all around: whatever you or I might think of the man, Rob Reiner was an incredible talent and made a lot of films that will still be watched when we're all long gone.

Reiner had tried to help his son by getting his vanity project made, but from what I'm reading the whole thing was a disaster from start to finish. And since addiction can often open the door to possession, I really have to wonder if that's what we're looking at here.

Since EVERYTHING always comes back to The X-Files, I noticed the star of the Reiners' film, Nick Robinson, is currently in this Netflix series.  Do note that it stars two Frasenators, Lena Headey and an unrecognizable Gillizabeth Anderfrase.

Helen pointed out that the patriarch of the Reiner clan starred in this sketch, "Professor Peabody's Last Lecture," on - wait for it - Night Gallery. You'll remember we talked quite a bit about Night Gallery during the initial Lovecraft Synchro-Storm, so this was probably inevitable.

The episode hinges on the Necromonicon poor Peabody got on loan from Miskatonic University - meaning Brown University, of course - so this all fits all too well. Especially considering Mr. Reiner is invoking the Great Old Ones here.

Always a bad idea.
