i seen there lecture version about 2-3 yrs ago, which is about 3 1/2 hrs in length, needless to say it was my catalyst.
Patrick Harpur in "The Philosopher's Secret Fire-The History of the Imagination" argues effectively that human consciousness is mythic in its very structure. He also makes it clear that myth is it's own purpose, and the re-making and retelling of the mythic in our individual and collective life IS meaning. He cautions against "literalizing" myth, and shows how the current supremacy of science is mythic, and needs mythic language to communicate. Believing in actual alien manipulation of genetic origins is literalizing myth. Looking for god when it is all around you. Hence synchronicity. DNA is mythic. The gods are and will always be mythic. Any "proof" of our origins will always be completely obscure and best told by myth.
Many of the myths seem to be about power and control. One of the myths we collectively seem to be re-living now is Kronos eating his own. T'was ever thus? We are Zeus, hiding and waiting.
If an alien came to the White House and told you he was pappy, nothing would really change?
Going off on a bit of a tangent here...I wonder if you've been following the American idol craziness this year with all the media hoopla and public obsessing over the runner up Adam Lambert? Well, I've read the Rolling Stone interview with him just out. And in it he states that he got the idea to enter American idol during a psychedelic experience at Burning Man last year, after which he went and got the EYE OF HORUS tattooed onto his body!!
Terry- also linked a while back to an interview those guys did with Acharya. Very heavy cats.
Anony- I've never heard of Harpur, but what you're describing reminds me very much of the approach of authors like Deepak Chopra and Sam Keen. Thanks for sharing your opinions.
Astro- It's funny I had that in the Satellite queue and didn't know what to do with it until you pointed out the Horus tattoo. So you get star of the day!
Interesting pic you have of Adam on Solar satellite. I hadn't seen his tattoo before. So everytime he waves to the fans he gets to flash his 'all seeing eye' at them. I can't help wondering if the 'mushrooms' told him to put it there.
I listened to Jan's interview on Red Ice Creations and found it to be fascinating. Naturally, my wife thought I was nuts and still lives in that state of mind where she feels she should be afraid of any challenge to "modern myth". Good times here on those days!
