Clown Show 2008- Whatever Happened to Ann Coulter?

Not an editorial comment- just how you're supposed to read the title.

Ann Coulter sure has been quiet lately. Perhaps her career has finally collapsed under the weight of all the appalling semiotic contradictions- never mind the crimes against logic, civility and reason- that she unleashed on the world. Her career seemed to have peaked with her anti-secular harangue, Godless, released on June 6, 2006. But think about it- what kind of Christian would release what is essentially a book of apologetics on 6/6/6?

And what kind of Christian woman would wear such immodest clothing on a book cover and then completely confuse the visual message with the obligatory crucifix dangling just above her exposed cleavage? It's hard enough trying to reconcile the streetwalker outfits she wears with the adam's apple, the square jaw and the man-hands. I guess in the party of Larry Craig and Jeff Gannon, this is what passes for a sex symbol.

But in my musings, I was wondering if there was another message being sent...

What most people don't realize is that, consciously or not, Ann is striking a pose in the ceremonial fashion of the Egyptian war goddess Sekhmet on the cover of that book. Sure, she's not holding the oar that Sekhmet held in that bent left-arm pose, but she remembered the 'Lion Paw' sign that she learned in DeMolay.

I'm not just basing this on one statue- there are all kinds of depictions of Sekhmet in variations of that very same pose.

It's also interesting to see the visual parallels- Sekhmet was tall and lean, and her head-dress resembled the long, flowing locks we see on Miz Coutlter.

Consciously or not, editors of the neocon New York Daily News used a cat to symbolically link mean old Annie to feline-headed Sekhmet, during one of the tedious, prefab controversies the media whipped up to promote her books. Is it a coincidence that Sekhmet was also renowned for her cruelty?

Consciously or not (my guess is the former) Coulter has made a career rubbing her "conservative" audience's faces in immodest, sexually trangressive, pagan-derived symbolism, just like this recreation of Godward's Delphic Oracle there (with a nod to Basic Instinct as well). Do I think this pose was a coincidence? Not on your life.

I've always found it hilarious to hear a single, childless forty-something berate everyone for not living up to her impeccable moral standards. I mean, if she believed a single word she wrote, Coulter would be in the kitchen or the nursery, barefoot, pregnant and silent. It's a joke.

The Religious Right has never done semiotics well. They do mind control like nobody's business, but they've never understood that things like Death Metal or FPS games can't be "Christianized," since their essential DNA draws from other traditions entirely. Similarly, Ann Coulter can't really call herself a Christian and dress like a bad Ru Paul wannabe.

  2. That's marvelous. I remember reading some conjecture somewhere that Anne was actually transexual, which would make her the ultimate self-hating homosexual. No wonder she fits in so well with the Neocons - birds of a feather...

  3. Oh i forgot to say something..

in Stargate atlantis our Shepard saviour hero who in one episope compares himself to Mr fantastic of the Fantastic four is constantly mentioning that his only real fear is CLOWNS...

but he loves Ferris wheels which is a concealed reference to the ferris wheel that richard anderson AKA Jack O Neill AkA Master Mason MacGyver always had in his apartment in every macGyver episode..

I've read that. Stranger things have happened. Camille Paglia did refer to Coulter recently as being "testosterone fueled."

Interesting connection- Mitch Pileggi was on S:A for a while and his first app. on TXF was in "Tooms", which was based on Mr. Fantastic.

It can really mess up your head sometimes...

  7. he was indeed......

Even weirder is that i believe that the role of cameron mitchel in sg1 was based on the real actor cameron mitchel who acted with John Anderson in 1969.

John anderson who played MacGyvers father in the series also played kevin uxbridge the man who wipes out an entire species using the exact same words as anakin skywalker when he confesses to it.

"I wiped them out, ALL of them"

when given the chance to write for SG1 Ben Browder/mitchel choose to do a zombie in a museum skit...The real actor cameron mitchel actually stared in a Zombie Museum flick in 1969...there is more high weirdness maybe i should write it up...

  8. Since Sekhmet only defends and never pre-emptively attacks, I would say Anne (the Man) Coulter, who is NOT a real woman anyway (have you EVER seen 'her' adams apple?)is actually an agent of Set, the Egyptian god of Evil, Darkness and Chaos.
As a Devotee of Sekhmet, I can tell you She has NOTHING in common with the very common Coulter.

Great pictures of the statues BTW!

  9. If y'all are so hip and enlightened, why can't y'all discuss this topic without indulging in ugly transphobia. It almost seems to validate her liberal bashing.

  10. I'm not transphobic at all! What gave you that idea? I just enjoy pointing out the semiotic confusion of Annie's admirers.

Not only does that restate the same old lame attempt to ridicule your subject for not passing some arbitrary test of femininity, but it encourages trans bashing by associating her with transgender folks in order to provide fodder to bash her, and by association transgender folk.

The secret truth is that ancient Egypt, Phrygia, India (as well as modern)Assyria, etc. all had transgender priest(ess)hoods associated with major Mother Goddess religions.

Why can't we give props to Ann Coulter for swindling millions from unsuspecting right-wing whakos? In my opinion, your thesis about her Sekhmet imagery is spot-on, and the transgenderism here is relevant in regard to the history of Goddess religions across the Mediterraneon and into Asia from antiquity.

  12. You raise an interesting point, Merlot. After reviewing Coulter's career, it does seem like some elaborate Situationalist swindle.

I'm going to delving into the symbolism of the Rebis in the months to come, so we can put all of this in a wider context.

  13. this post takes on particular significance in light of the installation of pharaobama

nice catch on the coulter poses, consciously orchestrated by herself and certain media spookz, for subliminal effect mostly

coulter's a predatory phake, possessed by sehkmet as you found

as the sirius 'election' showed, both 'parties' are controlled by goddess-cults of strong egypto-chaldean influence

the col/coul/kol/kohl prefixes mean "magician" and usually involve earth-sorcery, whether found in place or proper names
